Pew Heaters and Quartz Halogen Heaters Installed in St James Church in Egerton, Kent Kent
Project Type
Church Heating, Community Hall Heating
The Project
Last August, a BN Thermic engineer visited St James Church in Egerton, Kent to specify a new heating system for the church’s nave and chancel. St James Church is a grade 1 listed building and has all the classic characteristics of an old church building – high ceilings, sporadic usage and poor insulation values.
The nave of the church is split into three aisles – central, south and north. The central and south aisles have permanently fixed pews meaning BN Thermic’s under pew heaters were specified throughout. In the north aisle, the pews were potentially being removed to make space for other activities meaning pew heaters were not suitable. Given these parameters, both sides of the nave would require a different style of heater.
Under pew heaters are the most unobtrusive means of heating a church
Pew Heaters
For churches with fixed pews, we always recommend installing our unobtrusive under pews heaters. Under pew heaters sit directly under church pews and gently convect heat upwards. Under pew heaters are designed to heat people directly and do not try to warm all the air within a church. This makes them very energy efficient versus a traditional space heating system (i.e radiators/fan heaters etc).
A BN Thermic engineer specified pew heaters throughout the central and south aisles and each pew was controlled with an individual switch.
Quartz Halogen Heaters
For churches with no fixed pews, we always recommend installing our quartz halogen heaters. Quartz halogen heaters are designed to heat people directly and not to warm the surrounding air. The heaters are instantly effective making them ideal for heating sporadically used premises like churches. Given the pews in the north aisle were being removed, wall mounted quartz heaters were the only way to heat the area.
The units were also specified in the chancel and we placed behind the arches making them virtually unnoticeable to the congregation.
Quartz heaters are instantly effective making them ideal for intermittently used premises
The End Result
The install was a big success and we were kindly allowed to pop in and see the completed project. Here’s a video case study we made shortly after.
BN Thermic designs and supplies church heating systems for any sized church or chapel. Call us today on 01293 547 361 to discuss a project.
