Zero Glare Quartz Halogen Heaters Installed at Redesdale Hall in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire Gloucestershire
Project Type
Community Hall Heating, Performance-Space Heating
The Project
Any visitor to the picturesque market town of Moreton-in-Marsh would notice the eye-catching Redesdale Hall located in the town centre. The building was designed by the noted architect Sir Ernest George in the ‘Free Tudor’ style and erected in 1887.
The main hall is on the upper story, measuring approximately 16m x 8m with an impressive vaulted ceiling rising to around 7m at its apex. Some time ago, a gas heating system had been installed but this was now proving to be unreliable as well as being expensive to run and rather noisy.
Heating Requirements
When a BN Thermic heating engineer was invited to carry out an on-site survey, he was given the following list of requirements.
- Lowest running costs
- Minimal heat up time as the hall is used intermittently
- Minimal light output so not to interfere with performance events
- No noise output
- High mounting position to allow full use of floor and wall space
Quartz halogen heaters provide instant comfort heat making them ideal for intermittently used buildings

The BN Thermic Solution
The BN Thermic technical team suggested that six 4.5kW quartz halogen heaters, from the Magic Lamp range, be installed. The heaters were suspended at 5m above floor level in an evenly distributed grid.
Meeting the Customer’s Requirements
Here is how the BN Thermic proposal met the committee’s requirements
Low Running Costs
Halogen heaters heat people directly rather heating the surrounding air. This means that the poor thermal properties of an older building did not mean higher running costs as they would with a conventional heating system.
Minimal Heat Up Time
Halogen heaters are 100% effective the instant they are turned on. So, even in the depth of winter, the required warm-up time is measured in minutes rather than hours as had been the case with the existing gas system
Magic lamps give off a barely perceptible glow making them very unobtrusive
BN Thermic quartz halogen heaters were newly remodeled in 2020
Minimal Light Output
BN Thermic’s unique Magic Lamp halogen heaters provide all the heat intensity of a conventional halogen heater but with a fraction of the light output.
No Noise Output
Halogen heaters are always totally silent.
High Mounting Position
Halogen heaters are most effective with mounting positions between 2.5m and 5m above floor level (depending on kW output) and therefore, rarely interfere with activities.
The Outcome
If you would like to visit the Redesdale Hall Facebook page, you will get an idea of the wide range of events that take place there. These include art exhibitions, bingo, jazz recitals, taekwondo sessions and rock’n’roll dancing lessons! We are really pleased to have played a part in ensuring that this amazing building continues to be a true hub for the community.
